If God Hurts Those Who Sin, What’s He Been Saying Lately?

Evangelist Pat Robertson warned that Orlando, Florida should beware of hurricanes, since it allowed Disney World to stage gay celebrations there. Mr. Robertson said tolerance of homosexual activity ''could bring about earthquakes, tornadoes, and possibly a meteor.''

Recently, an entire swath of the South was struck by a series of catatrophes, natural and manmade. These date from the recent primary election in which preacher-presidential candidate Mike Huckabee won in a number of Southern Republican states, including Georgia, Tenneesse, and Arkansas, while coming close to victory in Missouri..

On the very day of the primary elections, February 5, the worst tornadoes in decades struck several Southern states, killing more than 50 people, with scores more injured. Tenneessee and Arkansas (where Huckabee had been governor) were the two hardest hit, with 30 being killed inTenneessee, and more than a dozen deaths in Arkansas.

Then, on February 7, six workers were killed and over 60 people injured in an explosion and fire at a sugar refinery near Savannah, Georgia.

Also on February 7, a disgruntled resident of Kirkwood, Missouri shot up a city council meeting, killing three officials and two police officers before he was shot to death by police.

Huckabee, who often mentions that God has smiled on him when he wins elections, has not discussed the tornadoes et al.

But, according to Pat Robertson’s logic, has God changed his mind? Is He now punishing states that support Huckabee because he is pushing an anti-gay Constitutional amendment?
